A Bihar court on Monday acquitted a 16-year-old boy of charges of kidnapping a 17-year-old girl and ordered him to take care of the girl and their eight-month-old child at his parents' home.

The Nalanda Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) principal judge Manvendra Mishra said that the boy's act was punishable by law, but he was acquitted keeping in mind the lives of the three minors—the boy, his 'live-in partner' and their daughter.

The girl's family had filed a complaint against the boy, his parents and brother at the Hilsa police station in February 2019, the Times of India reported. However, later the investigating officer removed the boy's parents and brother from the FIR as he did not find their involvement in the case. In July last year, the girl appeared before the court and said she had run away with the minor boy and they they had been living together in Delhi.

Additional public prosecutor Rajesh Pathak said that the girl's parents have agreed to the conditions set by the court. The court also directed the police to submit a report of the well-being of the minor mother and her child every six months for two years.
