Congress MP from Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga, Karti Chidambaram, who had in November said he wanted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to contest election from the state, has once again reiterated his demand.

In an application filed before the Congress' state election committee, Chidambaram requested that Vadra be named candidate for the bypoll to Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency, which fell vacant after the death of sitting MP Vasanthamumar due to COVID-19 last year.

The bypoll to the Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled to be held on April 6.

According to Hindustan Times, Chidambaram said Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Tamil Nadu will motivate the party workers in the state, which is gearing up for assembly elections on April 6.

In November, Chidambaram, in a tweet had said the Congress needs "a bold move" "which will fire up the imagination" party workers and suggested that Priyanka Gandhi contests from Kanyaumari constituency. "We need a bold move. Something which will fire up the imagination of the @INCIndia worker. @priyankagandhi must contest the Kanyaumari Parliamentary seat election which is likely to be announced shortly. @INCTamilNadu It will be an overwhelming victory for her/party/alliance," he had tweeted.
