A few days after the BJP alleged that Maharashtra Forest Minister Sanjay Rathod is linked to a suicide case of a Pune woman, the minister has submitted his resignation. According to media reports, Rathod said he resigned from the state cabinet after "dirty politics" over the death of a woman.

The resignation came after the Shiv Sena leader met with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's officical residence. Rathod met the chief minister along with his wife. Ministers Eknath Shinde, Anil Parab and Aaditya Thackeray too were present at the meeting, reports Times of India.

"I have given my resignation to CM Uddhav Thackeray. The way opposition is warning that they won’t allow Assembly session to function, I've distanced myself from it. I want fair probe in case," ANI quoted Rathod as saying.

Rathod's name was allegedly linked to death of TikTok star Pooja Chavan. The BJP had launched an agitation across the state against Rathod, demanding his ouster. "We are not going to accept anything other than Rathod's resignation. We have intensified our agitation and various cells of the party will continue protesting until we get his resignation," state BJP president Chandrakant Patil.

The 23-year-old woman died after falling from a building on February 8, and Pune Police had said they were probing the suicide angle. Some audio clips purportedly having bearing on the case had gone viral after her death. Rathod had denied that he had anything to do with the death.
