The Election Commission of India will announce the schedule for assembly elections in Kerala, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Friday. The Election Commission will hold a press conference at 4:30 pm at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
The commission had recently held meetings to finalise the schedule for assembly elections in the five states. The terms of the legislative assemblies of the five poll-bound states will come to an end either in May or in June this year.

Speaking at a rally in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had said that the election schedule might be announced by March 7.
On Monday, following deployment of 125 companies of central security forces in West Bengal ahead of the election, the EC said that the central police forces were being sent to all poll-bound states. It also said that central force deployment is a routine practice for several decades.
