Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Friday met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the CM House in Bhopal and urged support for the farmers who are agitating against the three new farm laws from past two months by leaving politics aside.

The meeting was described by the chief minister’s office as a courtesy call by Nath.

Kamal Nath’s media coordinator, Narendra Saluja, said that the ex-chief minister discussed the farmers’ agitation, the three black farm laws, development of the state and other issues of public welfare.

During discussion with the CM, Nath said that the three farm laws will destroy the farmers and therefore every person who thought for welfare of farmers should oppose them. The leader of opposition also said that our country is an agriculture-based economy and the new laws will cause huge damage to agriculture and farming.

Nath said that the farmers have been agitating against the laws for past two months and there was a need for everyone to stand with their struggle. The ex-CM also gave certain suggestion for people’s welfare to the CM, Saluja said.

The Madhya Pradesh Congress conducted a major drive in support of farmers’ agitation across the state last month. Kamal Nath himself participated in tractor rallies, panchayats and a gherao of Raj Bhavan as part of the drive. Nath has been repeatedly terming the farm laws as ones benefiting corporates and that would turn farmers into bonded labourers.

Nath and Chouhan are said to share a good rapport and have often met in a friendly manner away from electoral stages. Right after the BJP gaining majority through by-elections in November last year that saw unprecedentedly acrimonious campaigning between the two major parties, Nath had paid a courtesy visit to Chouhan.
