Even as the Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court reserved its orders on a bail application filed by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, arrested after the son of a BJP MLA filed a complaint accusing him of passing indecent remarks about Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show, a single bench of Justice Rohit Arya observed that "such people should not be spared."

The stand-up comic has been in jail since January 2.

"Such people must not be spared. I will reserve the order on merits", Livelaw quoted Justice Rohit Arya as saying.

“Why you take undue advantage of other's religious sentiments and emotions. What is wrong with your mindset? How can you do this for the purpose of your business," the judge asked. He also asked advocate Vivek Tankha, who appeared on behalf of the comic, if he wants to withdraw the bail plea.

Those opposing the bail application told the court that the stand-up comedian made objectionable comments against Hindu gods and posted several videos with such remarks which went viral. "He repeated the same remarks on three different occasions i.e. comedy shows. This has led to other comedians making such remarks about Hindu gods. This has led to other comedians making such remarks about Hindu gods. This is happening with 70 per cent of the comedians," a lawyer reportedly told the court.

Earlier, the magistrate's court as well as the sessions court had rejected his bail plea.
