Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra features in a calendar that chronicles her rapport with the people and her political challenges. The Uttar Pradesh unit of the party has started distributing it throughout the state.
Announcing this at the party office in Lucknow on Thursday, AICC member Ashok Singh said 10 lakh calendars will be distributed as part of the efforts to build the party organisation in the state. The distribution is on since January 3 by party office bearers who are camping in the districts of which they are in-charge. Every district has been given calendars based on its population.
The colour-rich pictures chosen for the calendar show Vadra’s people skills, as she is seen surrounded by people in most of the pictures. In most of the pictures, she is saree clad.
Given Vadra’s recent run-ins with the Uttar Pradesh government, most of the images in the calendar are from the state. The first is of her walking with women in fields in Sonbhadra, which was the site of a massacre of Gond tribals by members of the Gujjar community in July 2019. The February image is of her at the Sant Ravidas Jayanti celebrations in Varanasi. The image for April is of her hugging the mother of the September 2020 Hathras gang rape victim with the caption, “Despite several obstacles by the government ultimately meeting the mother of the Hathras victim”.
The May picture shows her with hands raised to fend off a police baton with the caption, “Being an armour to save UP congress workers from the lathis of the UP Police”. The picture for the month of June is of her meeting women in Amethi, while July shows her seated on the ground with an elderly woman having lunch during a break while campaigning. The October page has a picture of her back while she addresses an election rally. November shows her wiping off the tears from a little girl’s face whose father had been arrested during the anti CAA protests in Azamgarh. The December picture is of her leading a march of Congress workers in Lucknow on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The other images in which the captions mention the places where they were taken are from electioneering in Jharkhand, praying at the Mahakaal temple at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh; and of her interacting with some elderly men in Rohtak, Haryana during a road show.
Singh said, “The calendar shows Priyanka ji’s great bond with people and her qualities as a leader. It will serve to remind people about her struggles and triumphs”.
