Reacting to the Congress releasing a booklet to highlight the problems of the contentious farm laws, titled 'Kheti ka khoon', Union minister Prakash Javadekar asked "what about the bloodbath during the Partition."

According to news agency ANI, the Union minister for information and broadcasting asked if the deaths of 3,000 Sikhs in Delhi in 1984  was not bloodbath, and pointed out that "lakhs of farmers" died by suicide during the Congress regime.

"You are talking about 'kheti ka khoon' but what about bloodbath during the partition? 3,000 Sikhs were burnt alive in Delhi in 1984. Was it not bloodshed?...Lakhs of farmers died by suicide during Congress rule, was there no blood in their bodies," the news agency quoted him as saying.

Rahul Gandhi, who had earlier led a tractor rally against the farm laws in Punjab and Haryana, had said during the launch of the booklet on Tuesday:  “Why are the farmers of Punjab and Haryana agitating? Who are they? They are patriots who are protecting the livelihood of 60 per cent of the people of this country. They are fighting for us, they are fighting to prevent the country from falling into the hands of three or four people.”

“There is a tragedy unfolding today in the country, government wants to ignore the issue and misinform the country. I am not going to speak about farmers alone as it is only part of the tragedy. It is important for youngsters. This is not about the present but about your future,” the Congress leader was quoted as saying.
