A few days after Congress leader and former minister Sajjan Singh Verma courted controversy for asking on what basis the marriage age of girls should be increased from 18 to 21, another Congress leader faced backlash for his misogynistic remarks.

In video that has gone viral, Congress MLA Harsh Vijay Gehlot is seen arguing with  sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Kamini Thakur in Ratlam district of the state on Sunday.

The incident occurred after the Congress party took out a tractor rally in support of the farmers agitating in Delhi against the controversial agri reforms. After the rally, the party leaders and workers came to the office of the SDM to submit a memorandum.

In the video, the Congress MLA and Thakur are seen arguing, with Gehlot asserting that he is a legislator. “You are a woman. Had you been a man, I would have held you by the collar and handed over the memorandum to you," he is heard saying.

Media reports suggest that the MLA was livid as the sub-divisional magistrate did not immediately come out of the office and the protestors had to wait for her.

The fresh controversy comes even as the National Commission For Protection of Child Rights issued a notice Verma over his regressive remarks and the saffron party sought an apology from the leader.
