Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said a special team has been formed to probe the murder of an IndiGo airlines manager, which had sparked off a political storm in the state. Kumar also assured strict action will be taken against the culprits.

"I spoke with the DGP, a special team has been formed. Don't demoralise Police, if someone doesn't carry out their duty, action will be taken,” the chief minister was quoted to have said by ANI.

Dismissing allegations about the law and order situation in the state, Kumar asked: “What used to happen before 2005? There was a lot of crime. Is it the same today?"

Rupesh Kumar Singh (40), IndiGo’s airport manager in Patna, was sprayed with bullets while he was inside his SUV waiting for the gates of his residence in Punaichak locality in the city to open after his return from office on Tuesday evening.

According to police, CCTV footage suggests that the assailants were two in number and rode a motorcycle.

The assassins, who had their backs towards the CCTV camera situated on an adjacent street, appeared to have been following Singh from the airport, around three km away.

There was an outpouring of grief for Singh, survived by wife and two children less than 10 years of age, who was known to be sociable and, by virtue of his job profile, close to many powerful politicians and bureaucrats in the state.

The RJD and the Congress trained guns at the chief minister, asking him to quit if he is not able to control the law and order situation in the state.
