As Tamil Nadu waited in anticipation for Rajinikanth to take a final decision on his political entry on Monday, the superstar once again chose to maintain the suspense over it for a little longer. He is expected to take a decision on his long awaited active political entry.

“I met with the district secretaries of my Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM). They heard my views and I shared my views with them. They assured that they will stand by me whatever decision I take. I will announce my decision as early as possible,” Rajinikanth told the media, outside his Poes Garden residence.

Earlier on Monday, the actor had a two-hour long meeting with the RMM functionaries at the Raghavendra Marriage Hall at Kodambakkam in Chennai. In fact, this is the first time after his March 12 announcement that he said he will get into politics when there is a renaissance.

Rajinikanth chose to stay indoors during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and, in a statement in October, he openly told about his health conditions to his fans. However, the meeting on Monday, which was expected to bring an end to the suspense, once again ended with no concrete decision. Sources in the RMM said that the functionaries expressed their views on the ground situation and urged the actor to launch his political party latest by January 2021. They also wanted him to be the chief minister candidate and urged that he spearhead the campaign.

Sources also say that RMM functionaries have asked him not to name anyone else as the chief minister candidate or voice for any political party.

“He will make a good announcement very soon. We will abide by whatever his decision is,” said Anand, one of the office bearers from Kanyakumari.

However, Rajinikanth, who drove all the way from the meeting venue to his Poes Garden residence, said that he will announce his stand on his impending political entry, “as early as possible,” making his fans and well-wishers wait for more time. Sources close to Rajinikanth’s family say that the actor informed the RMM functionaries that his health might not allow him to take an active role as of now and that he might not be able to campaign across the state this close to the elections.

Sources also confirm that his final decision might be “disappointing” for his fans and followers. It may be recalled that a Tamil magazine, run by RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy who is considered close to Rajinikanth, recently ran a cover page saying, ‘Rajinikanth getting into politics is doubtful’.

Rajinikanth is currently working on his next movie Annaththe produced by Sun Pictures. The project has been on hold since the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak. As of now, only 40 per cent of the movie has been shot and Rajinikanth has asked the producers to put the movie on hold. The rest of the movie is said to go on floors only in January 2021. In addition, the actor, who underwent a renal transplant, is expected to go to the USA for a health review.
