The government authorities on Friday barred Jammu and Kashmir former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti from holding a press conference at her residence in Srinagar. In the morning, Mufti was stopped from traveling to Pulwama to meet the family of PDP youth leader Waheed Parra.

Mufti had in the morning tweeted about police preventing her from leaving her residence for Pulwama. She had called for a press conference at 3 pm.

The police, however, did not allow reporters to enter the PDP president's residence. The media was, instead, asked to leave.

Parra was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for links with militants. He has been accused of having links with Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu who was arrested by J-K police along with suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh and a lawyer in January. The three were traveling to Jammu in Singh's car.

The case was transferred to the NIA after initial investigations by J-K police. On Friday, Parra was remanded by a court in Delhi to NIA custody for 15 days.

The youth leader is considered close to Mufti and commands influence in south Kashmir, considered a PDP stronghold.
