The RJD, which emerged as the single-largest party in last week's Bihar Assembly election, announced on Monday it would boycott the swearing-in of Nitish Kumar as chief minister.

The RJD secured 75 seats in the Assembly polls, one more than the BJP, which is in alliance with the JD(U) that secured 43 seats. During counting of votes on November 10, the RJD accused the Bihar government of attempting to manipulate the results in favour of the NDA.

The RJD tweeted, "The RJD boycotts swearing-in ceremony. The mandate for change is against the NDA. The mandate has been changed on the state's directions. Ask the unemployed, farmers, contract workers and employed teachers of Bihar what is going on with them. The public is agitated by the fraud of the NDA. We are the public's representatives and stand with them."

Tejashwi Yadav, RJD's candidate for chief minister, had demanded recounting of postal ballots in all constituencies where they were counted last.

In another tweet, the RJD took a jibe at the BJP and JD(U), saying "two helpless parties were forming a helpless government". The cryptic tweet said one of these two "helpless" parties was "weak and corrupt" (apparent reference to JD(U)) and the other lacked a face. The BJP had insisted that Nitish Kumar would be the NDA's chief ministerial candidate irrespective of the scale of the alliance's victory.
