The bypoll campaign battle in Madhya Pradesh is now clearly settled between Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and ex-chief minister Kamal Nath, with the attacks getting more personal day by day as the polling date (November 3) nears.

The latest cross-fire came on Friday and was focused on chehre ke daagh (stained faces).

With the Congress campaign being single-handedly driven by Kamal Nath, the BJP has launched personal attacks on Kamal Nath during the past few days. Apart from the usual allegations of Kamal Nath turning the MP State Secretariat (Vallabh Bhavan) into a haven of 'dealers/middlemen', the BJP has now started to dig out Kamal Nath's alleged involvement in various scams and corrupt activities over the years.

To these allegations, Kamal Nath has always responded saying that his 40-year-long political career has been be-daagh (stainless).

On Friday, Chouhan sought to take the matter forward when he turned poetic and said that Kamal Nath keeps claiming he is totally stainless, “but Daagh bade gehre hain; benaqab chehre hain (the stains are very deep; the face stands unveiled)”. Chouhan added that even if the washing power from the entire world is used, the stains (on Kamal Nath's face) can't be washed off. “So Kamal Nath ji, stop calling yourself stainless,” Chouhan tweeted.

Kamal Nath's counter-attack, also in Hindi, came soon after on Twitter. He said “Those who are stainless will remain stainless, the people are witness to this. Also those who have stained faces will remain stained, the people are witness to this too.”

“You (Chouhan) have said rightly that the stains on faces cannot be washed off with any washing powder in the entire world. The stains can't even be washed off in the washing machine of BJP that makes every stained (person) stainless and no washing machine has yet been developed that could wash off these deep stains on the stained faces,” Kamal Nath tweeted.
