Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at Melhora, Zainpora in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian on Tuesday. Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia, in a statement, said two militants have been killed in a joint operation with police. The operation has ended.
The encounter started on Monday evening. One militant was killed when the firefight started and this morning, another militant was killed, taking the toll to two. The weapons and bodies of both the militants have been recovered, sources said.
The operation was carried out by the Army’s 55RR and police’s special operation group (SOG) after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. The area was cordoned off and searches were conducted. Contact was established with the militants after the forces closed in on their location.
