Since Friday morning, an image of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posing for a photograph has been shared by multiple Twitter handles.

The image has become convenient fodder for critics of Yogi Adityanath, particularly in the wake of the alleged gang-rape and death of a young dalit girl in Hathras last month.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was quick to latch on to the image. AAP shared the image of Yogi Adityanath being photographed along with a funeral pyre, apparently of the Hathras victim.

AAP captioned the Twitter post, "Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned."

The Yogi Adityanath government has been severely criticised over its handling of the Hathras case. It has been accused of attempting to go slow against the accused in the case and cremating the victim at midnight against her family's wishes.

However, Adityanath's government had defended its decision to cremate the Hathras victim, citing that it apprehended a law and order problem if her funeral were allowed in the morning.
