The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday submitted a compliance affidavit to the Supreme Court over the alleged gang-rape and death of a young dalit woman in Hathras last month.

The compliance affidavit was filed as the Supreme Court is hearing pleas seeking transfer of the Hathras case out of Uttar Pradesh. Last week, the Uttar Pradesh government had filed an affidavit in the case, seeking a court-monitored CBI probe. The affidavit defended the government's controversial decision to cremate the victim late at night.

The CBI on Tuesday took over the probe into the case.

The latest affidavit of the Uttar Pradesh government reiterated its request for the Supreme Court to monitor the CBI probe into the case. The court would receive status reports fortnightly.

The latest affidavit noted the victim's family had been given three-layer security and stressed the state government was committed to giving "full security" to the victim's family. "Eight CCTV cameras have been installed outside her home to keep a watch and the police has ensured that there is no intrusion of privacy of the family," NDTV quoted the affidavit as saying.

Late last month, the victim’s family had alleged the police had taken away their phones.

On Tuesday, a fresh PIL was filed in the Supreme Court seeking registration of offences under the Schedules Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against officials over the Hathras case. The PIL alleged police officials, hospital staff and government officials had colluded to destroy evidence in the Hathras case.
