Continuing the attack on the Centre over the farm laws, Congress, on Saturday, took to Twitter to point out that whenever the Narendra Modi-led Union government called a decision “historic,” common people have been at the receiving end of such moves.

The grand old party cited earlier instances of demonetisation and GST which were hailed “historic” and pointed out that while the former "destroyed informal sector," the latter "destroyed MSMEs."

Ina picture collage, the Congress said the government now hailed the farm laws historic, and added that these "will destroy farmers and agricultural sector." The party posted the picture with the tweet: “Untrustworthy PM, untrustworthy govt.”

The party has been targetting the Centre over the farm bills, saying Modi government was a puppet whose strings were in the hands of the Adanis and the Ambanis.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi vowed to scrap the farm laws once the Congress returns to power at the Centre. “I guarantee the day Congress government is formed (at the Centre), these three black laws would be scrapped and consigned to wastepaper basket,” he had said.

President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill; and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, which were passed by the Parliament last month.

The government maintained that the MSP system will remain and has accused the Congress and other opposition parties of misleading farmers. Reacting to this, the Congress, in another tweet asked: “Since the protests against the anti-farmer black laws started the govt has been claiming that MSP will remain, if they are so certain why can't they put it in writing?”

PM Modi has alleged that those opposing the bills only want the middlemen to thrive, while his government is concerned about the interests of farmers who will now be able to get a better price for their produce.
