Two soldiers were killed and four others injured as Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation at Naugam sector in Kupwara on Thursday.

Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia confirmed that the ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) at Naugam sector on Thursday morning resulted in two of the soldiers being fatally wounded. Both succumbed to their injuries later.

Four others who suffered injuries were taken to the hospital.

Col Kalia said that the Indian Army has given “a befitting reply” to Pakistan in retaliation after having inflicted casualties on the their armed forces. The latest conflict comes in the wake of a soldier’s death in Poonch sector, Kishna Ghati in Jammu when Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement.

According to reports reaching Srinagar, loud explosions could be heard in Naugam causing fear among the residents.

This year alone, Pakistan has committed 1,900 ceasefire violations along the LoC and international border so far. Ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased since the Chinese aggression against India in Ladakh.

Pakistan Army reportedly has often used ceasefire violations to give cover to militants infiltrating into Kashmir from the neighbouring country.

More details awaited.
