West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at the Union government, saying that the farm bill might bring back famine in the state.

"States would have no power to control hoarders (because of the farm bills). Landlords would send their produce outside the state. It reminds us of the great Bengal famine of 1943. In fact, we might head towards a similar situation."

The chief minister said she has urged all the opposition parties in Delhi to speed up their efforts to launch a movement against the bill. She said there will be no leadership issue in such a movement.

"I can say that we will be the backbenchers and would encourage other parties by giving claps from behind. Others will be at the front," she said.

Calling the Narendra Modi government anti-farmer and anti-people, Banerjee said the NDA regime must go.

"This government has lost all credibility. BJP has no right to rule and their government must be defeated immediately.”

Calling the suspension of the two TMC MPs anti-democratic, Banerjee said such a decision will not silence her party.

"In fact, we will agitate more against this anti-people government," she said.
