Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh today said that the Uttar Pradesh government has filed a sedition case against him and that he could be arrested when he appears before the state police in Lucknow on September 20.

Singh, who is the AAP in-charge for party affairs in UP, slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for filing a “politically motivated” sedition case against him, saying the main reason for it was that he was continuously raising his voice against atrocities on Brahmins and Dalits in the state.

“You must have heard several stories about the abuse of political power. I want to apprise you that the UP government under Shri Yogi Adityanath has now filed a sedition case against me. I have given my whole life for the welfare of people, but today the UP government is claiming that I am an anti-national,” he said.

The AAP leader said the Yogi government has filed 13 FIRs against him in the last three months. “They have not filed 13 FIRs against any of the UP mafias during this period, but they have filed these FIRs against me,” he said.

Singh said that today he informed Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu regarding the filing of cases against him. “I said to the Hon'ble chairman that if I am really an anti-national person, then I should be behind bars,” he said.

He said 37 MPs of 12 different political parties, including the Congress, TMC, SP, Shiv Sena, RJD, TRS, TDP, DMK, Akali Dal and NCP, stood beside him in solidarity and Naidu has assured the House that a probe will be conducted in this matter.

“Every section and community is unhappy with the Yogi government. It is torturing the Brahmin community. Atrocities are going on against the people from Maurya community, Nishad, Bind, Kashyap, Jaat, Gujjar, Valmiki, Kurmi, Yadav and other communities. I raised the issue of the killing of journalist Shri Vikram Joshi and others. I have also raised the issue of massive corruption by the Yogi government in buying corona kits,” Singh said.

He said a case was first registered against him under the IT Act, and when he raised in the Rajya Sabha, the issue of corruption in purchase of corona kits in UP, a sedition case was filed against him last evening.

“On September 20, I will join the Rajya Sabha, and from there I will travel to Lucknow to surrender before the police. I know that the Yogi government will arrest me on September 20,” he said.
