Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called upon the BJP MPs and MLAs, including ministers and other office bearers of party, to leave aside everything and start working on the ground for by-polls, as status and prestige will last only till the government lasts.

Chouhan was addressing a by-poll related meeting of the MPs, MLAs and office bearers, at the state party headquarters in Bhopal. He said that 100 per cent result—victory in all 27 seats up for by-polls—is required and for this everyone should get into work mode.

State BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma, organising general secretary Suhas Bhagat and other senior office bearers, including Union Minister Faggan Singh Kuleste, were also present at the meeting.

In a comment that seemed to be specifically directed at the party office bearers and public representatives who are said to be upset about former Congress MLAs, who support Jyotiraditya Scindia, getting more focus in the party, Chouhan said that everyone should forget their grudges and plunge into by-poll work with full strength.

He said that communication should be maintained with ground level workers and all works related to public welfare should be completed without fail. Focus should be on common people and all efforts should be made to ensure that not even a single seat is lost. “We have to work tirelessly and in a united manner for this,” the CM said.

Chouhan also said that only becoming post-holders, getting letter-pads printed or getting garlanded won’t help. Everyone would have to go amid people, hold local level meetings in villages and forge direct contact with people. Help of all the party fronts should also be taken and social media should be utilised fruitfully. The scams and corruptions of the Congress regime should be highlighted, he said.

Later talking to the mediapersons, state president Sharma said that all people’s representatives and office bearers are already working on the ground, but the meeting was aimed at enthusing them to get into by-poll work with full might.

When asked about the CM’s comments, Sharma said that all such things are said to fire the workers up and to encourage them to give their best. He mentioned that a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state unit was also held during the day and the role of morcha during the by-poll was discussed. The morcha will be holding motorcycle rallies and other contact activities during the coming days, Sharma said.
