One militant was killed and an Army major was critically injured in an encounter at Pattan in Baramulla on Friday.

The identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained as the encounter is continuing.

The injured major belongs to the Army's 29 RR. Some reports suggest that he succumbed to injuries at Base Hospital 92 of the Army at Badami Bagh in Srinagar.

The encounter began after security forces received intelligence about the presence of militants at Yadipora village.
