Former chief minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kamal Nath on Thursday said that the upcoming by-polls on 27 seats in the state are not normal elections but elections for the future of the state and that the BJP’s “politics of lies and trading of democracy” will not work any more.

Speaking to media after paying a courtesy call to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the ex-CM showed a pen drive to journalists and said that it includes all the details of 26.5 lakh farmers whose farm loans were waived by his government. He said that he would provide copies of those details to media.

Earlier, during a mega-membership show held in Gwalior over the weekend, leaders after leaders of the BJP, including CM Chouhan and Rajya Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia, had accused the previous Kamal Nath government of failing to keep its promises, especially that on waiving of farm loans.

Kamal Nath said that the BJP thrives on politics of lies and by trading on and making mockery of democracy and Constitution. “But the people of the state, especially the youth, understand everything. They know what happened to their future prospects during the 15 year rule of the BJP and what we did during our 15 months of governance. Our policies and intentions are clear and are there for people to see. We do not want people to support the Congress or Kamal Nath. We want them to identify and support the truth,” the ex-CM said.

Kamal Nath said that the people who themselves participated in loan waiver events during the Congress regime were now making false accusations and the details in his pen drive were enough to expose their lies.

He also added that the Congress was using the time to strengthen the organization as the contest in the by-polls will be against organization of the BJP and not the achievements of the BJP government as they” do not have any achievements to showcase”.

Kamal Nath also said that the BJP tainted the politics of Madhya Pradesh by turning everything worth sale and purchase and that the people of the state will not spare them.

He said those who left the party alleged that they left because they were ignored and he did not meet them. “But it is all about trade. Will these people accept that they were engaged in trade? So they are making these excuses. But people understand this politics of publicity and dramatics,” the Congress leader said.

Kamal Nath is said to have discussed the current issues facing the state with Chouhan during their meeting.

Later, the ex-CM released another statement saying that whenever there is a government of BJP in Madhya Pradesh, farmers have been flustered and the corrupt, scammers, adulterers and black marketers have thrived.

Speaking on the current crisis of urea (fertilizer) availability in the state, Kamal Nath said that farmers are being made to face huge problems and black marketers are having a field time. Farmers are not only purchasing adulterated fertilizer at considerably higher cost but also facing cane charge of police.

He has demanded that the state government look at the ground situation and make available adequate and unadulterated fertilizer to the farmers at proper price, failing which the Congress will be forced to launch an agitation over the issue.
