CWC decides 'to strengthen' hands of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi

After a seven-hour long Congress Working Committee meet on Monday in which 52 party leaders participated, it was unanimously agreed up on that Sonia Gandhi will continue to remain as the party chief, Congress leader K. C. Venugopal said.

The Congress leader, in his statement at a press briefing, acknowledged that the party took note of the letter by more than 20 leaders demanding an "active, full-time and visible" president.

Observing that the country has been going through a tough period in the past six months due to the downward spiral of economy, job losses, Chinese aggression along the border and the COVID-19 situation, the Congress leader said both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been demanding accountability from the government. He said both the leaders have been questioning the government about the migrant crisis and the COVID-19 management and added that Rahul Gandhi has been leading the fight against the government from the front.

He said in the CWC meeting, the party leaders unanimously decided to strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi has been given the power to effect institutional changes in the party, he added.

Further, he said nobody will be allowed to weaken the party and pointed out that inner party issues cannot be solved through media or public forum.

He also urged everyone to take responsibility for the fight against the government and rise up and demand accountability from the Centre.
