Amid incessant rains and floods, Mumbai also saw a few good samaritans rising to the occasion. In an act of bravery and humanitarianism, a 50-year-old woman stood for eight hours in rain on a  waterlogged road to warn commuters about a manhole.

Kanta Murti Kalan, a flower vendor, opened the manhole at Tulsi Pipe Road at Matunga to let the flooded water flow out and remained at the spot to avoid a possible mishap of commuters falling into it.

"The road was flooded with water; I wanted to help others. I opened the hole to let water out, and in order to avoid any tragedy, I decided to keep standing at the spot. No official came to look into the matter," Kalan told ANI.

According to reports, Kalan had lost her home and life savings as rains wrecked havoc in the area. A mother of eight children, Kalan has to support the education of her three kids by selling flowers on the roadside. Five of her children are married.

"I support my three children's education by selling flowers and I am the only earning member in the family as my husband is paralysed after meeting with a railway accident," she told the news agency.

The video of her standing on the road and alerting commuters about the manhole has gone viral on social platforms with many showering praise on her sense of social responsibility.

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts falling under the Konkan region, while there were scattered showers of medium intensity in the rest of the state.
