SIT invites public to disclose information about Vikas Dubey

The SIT has to submit its report to the chief minister on July 31

UP-forensic-team-Vikas-Dubey-encounter-PTI Kanpur: Forensic experts probe the scene of encounter in which gangster Vikas Dubey's criminal maternal uncle Prem Prakash Pandey was killed, at Bikru village in Kanpur, Friday, July 17, 2020 | PTI

The three-member Special Investigative Team formed to probe the larger issues in the Vikas Dubey case has made public its address and e-mail id, inviting members of the public to supply information about the gangster.

Anyone who has information about Dubey can write to sit-kanpur@up.gov.in, and can also phone 0522-2214540.

Those with information can also walk into the SIT's office, in the fourth floor of Bapu Bhawan, to have their submissions recorded. This will be possible between July 20-24.

The team is probing nine questions that seek to understand the many connections of Dubey that had allowed him to flourish for so long and also the nature and source of his wealth.

These include a look into the action taken on the charges against Dubey and whether any punishment meted out to his associates was enough. Questions include how it was possible for such a notorious criminal, with 60 cases against him, to be out on bail and why no action was taken to revoke the bail.

It will examine the illegally-gotten wealth of Dubey, which includes land, businesses and other economic transactions. Whether Dubey had encroached upon government land and if this was facilitated by officers; why no action was taken to remove his illegal encroachments will also be questions that the commission will look into. The alleged connections between Dubey and the police, as well as the income flow of the network of financiers, will also be traced.

The SIT has to submit its report to the chief minister on July 31.

Meanwhile, social activist Nutan Thakur, who visited the office of the Special Task Force (STF) that was tasked with tracing Dubey and his associates in the aftermath of the police ambush, says she will now approach the Allahabad High Court regarding the whereabouts of Dubey's alleged cashier Jay Bajpai.

Bajpai is held to be Dubey’s cashier and thus the one who has all the details about the criminal's doings.

Thakur said that despite repeated requests, all the STF officers in the STF headquarters had refused to meet her. She also made many phone calls to these officers but they did not pick up the phone. The STF staff refused to share any information with her.

She said, “This completely unexplained behaviour of STF. [It] gives strong credence to the rumours that something untoward has already been done with Jay Bajpai, because of which STF is shying away from interaction in the matter. Only Jai is left who has full knowledge about dark deeds of Vikas Dubey and his linkage with police and administrative officers and politicians. If anything happens to Jai, all the secrets will go with him”.
