The body parts of West Bengal BJP leader MLA Debendra Nath Ray, who was found dead on Monday, have been sent for further chemical testing to a forensic laboratory in Kolkata after the postmortem report came inconclusive about the cause of death. “The death is antemortem in nature. Further information, if any, will be provided after receipt of the chemical examiner’s report,” the civil surgeon, who conducted the postmortem, remarked.

The viscera of the body parts and blood samples have been preserved.

There have been no wounds on the body that could be termed homicidal in nature, notes attached to the report said.  “No injuries showing evidence of vital reactions and was ante-mortem. No other injury was detected,” said the postmortem report. The only injuries found in the body was around his neck, which was due to hanging. While the medical officer has reserved his comment in the postmortem report, the surgeon only made statements like "the death is ante-mortem in nature".

Ray’s lungs were congested due to the hanging. However, his heart functions till death were normal. There was healthy content in both chambers of the heart.

Ray was found hanging outside the shop of Kutub Ali in public view at Raiganj town, around 2 kms away from his home, early morning on Monday. He was wearing a shirt and lungi.

The West Bengal BJP has demanded a CBI inquiry into the death and made a representation to state Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in this regard.

On Tuesday, a delegation of the party led by BJP general secretary and Bengal in-charge, Kailash Vijayvargiya, met President Ram Nath Kovind and demanded the case should be handed over to impartial investigating agencies. “We have also told the President that around 105 BJP workers and leaders have been assassinated in Bengal during the Trinamool Congress’s rule. We will not take it lightly and explore every legal possibility so that such an incident does not recur,” Vijayvargava said.

On Monday, another BJP president Dilip Ghosh had stated that the party believed in peace. "But if murders of our leaders and workers continue unabated like this, we do not rule out revenge even,” said Ghosh in a social media post.
