With the COVID-19 crisis continuing, Delhi government has decided to cancel all semester and final-year exams of universities that fall under it, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Saturday.

“The corona crisis is still on. Schools and colleges are still shut. School exams were cancelled, including those for Class 10 and 12. Colleges were in a similar situation as studies for the previous semester were badly affected,” Sisodia said.

“While some online classes were held, other learning activities, such as lab work and field research could not take place. So a question before us was how we could have an exam for a semester in which studies could not take place?” he said.

Sisodia said that the Delhi government has decided to cancel all semester and final-year exams and instructions in this regard have been given to the universities.

“The universities have been instructed to promote students to the next semester based on the marks secured in the previous semester or other assessments. Students in the final year should be evaluated in a similar manner and awarded degrees,” he said.

Noting that the decision will be a relief for lakhs of students who were uncertain about their future, Sisodia informed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to take a similar decision for the Central universities.
