Even as the arrest of wanted criminal Vikas Dubey in Ujjain was confirmed by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, details on his arrest were not divulged officially with home minister Narottam Mishra saying that intelligence matters are not be revealed now.

Questions have however started emerging with senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh saying that 'it was a sponsored surrender courtesy a senior MP leader'.

The Chhattisgarh Congress has also raised big questions and even named MP home minister Narottam Mishra in what it called 'surrender by Vikas Dubey'. Spokesman R.P. Singh has said that it was learnt from media reports that Dubey had surrendered in Ujjain. "It is also known that Narottam Mishra was the in-charge of Kanpur (for BJP) during UP Assembly polls. Now the murderer of Kanpur surrenders in a state where Mishra is a home minister. Is this a coincidence (sanyog), experiment (prayog) or misuse of power (satta ka durupyog)? High level probe is required," Singh said.

According to sources, the criminal, wanted most recently for killing of eight policemen in Kanpur, was held from the premises of the famous Mahakal temple in Ujjain where he had entered by purchasing a VIP ticket at around 8.30am on Thursday.

Two of Dubey's accomplices named Bittu and Suresh who were with the gangster have also been reportedly held by Ujjain police, sources said.

Different versions are emerging on the exact way of his arrest with one version saying he revealed his identity to the policemen present on the temple premises after having a darshan in the temple. He also reportedly kept loitering on the temple premises for quite some time.

Another version suggests that he was identified by a security guard who stopped him for questioning. Vikas reportedly had a brief struggle with the security guard who then informed the police in the local post and he was held. Some vendors at the entrance of the temple, where Dubey had reportedly kept his bag before entering the temple had also tipped police off, sources said.

Ujjain is over 800 km from Faridabad where Vikas Dubey was spotted on Wednesday evening. The gangster is reported to have used his own vehicle to travel to Ujjain, seemingly averting police attention on the UP/MP border and other district borders in both states.

The director general of police of Madhya Pradesh Vivek Johri did not respond to phone calls or a text message from THE WEEK. Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed to the media that Dubey had been arrested, but details could not be revealed at this point of time as it was an issue of intelligence. He said that Madhya Pradesh police was on high alert since Dubey had absconded following the Kanpur cop killings.

Chief Minister Chouhan tweeted congratulating the Ujjain police on the arrest. He further tweeted that he had spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on phone and soon the next legal actions will be taken. “Madhya Pradesh police will hand over Vikas Dubey to Uttar Pradesh police'.

Sources said that UP police team has already left for Madhya Pradesh and will seek remand of Dubey after he is presented in the Ujjain court.
