Absconding fugitive Vikas Dubey is a COVID-19 suspect as one of the accused in the Kanpur encounter case, who hosted him in his Faridabad house on July 5, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Sharvan, a relative of Dubey, was arrested along with his son Ankur and an aide of Dubey, Prabhat Mishra, by a joint team of Faridabad police and Uttar Pradesh STF. Sharvan was sent to judicial custody and it was after reaching jail that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Dubey had taken shelter at Shravan’s house before moving to a low-budget hotel at Badhkal Chowk.

“Sharvan is corona positive. He has been isolated and we are following all necessary protocols for the cops and jail staff who handled him," said Faridabad Police Commissioner O.P. Singh.

This has put the entire team of Faridabad police and UP STF involved in arresting the accused and the local court at risk. Sources claimed that the process of quarantining and screening of the cops had started.

Meanwhile, Dubey has reportedly contacted his lawyer seeking help for surrendering in Delhi. Dubey has been travelling from one district to another, trying to surrender as he is scared of being eliminated.

A senior official of Faridabad police revealed that it was a surrender assurance by local cops that brought him to Faridabad. The cops were reportedly planning an encounter and alerted the UP STF, but at the last moment the information was leaked and Dubey escaped from the hotel. The Delhi borders have been put on high alert as he is expected to enter the city through public transport.
