Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation begins Corona Ghar Seva

Teams of paramedical personnel will visit the patients every alternate day

With COVID-19 cases still on the rise in the western part of Ahmedabad and more people reporting asymptomatic, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has launched “Corona Ghar Seva: Sanjivani Van” service at the doorstep of patients.

Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar told THE WEEK that two paramedical personnel visit the patients every alternate day and check them for fever, appetite, breathlessness, fatigue, diarrhea and headache among other symptoms. The pulse rate, blood pressure and SPO2 in resting position are also checked.

The team provides vitamin tablets to patients and advises them to maintain good hygiene, do hot water gargles at regular intervals and wash hands with soap and sanitizer.

The services were started on Monday.

There are 75 such teams and each team will look after five to ten patients till their home quarantine period/isolation is over. According to Mukesh Kumar, the load of the hospitals has decreased and the paramedical staff is comparatively free.

The AMC's target is to visit 400 patients every day.

The AMC chief said that a doctor and an assistant professor have been allotted for each 10 teams to seek help, if required. 

Meanwhile, in 24 hours ending at 5 pm on Tuesday, Gujarat registered a record 778 new cases. The number of cases in the state has gone up to 37,636. In the same period, 17 persons lost their lives, taking the death toll to 1979.
