Haryana: Two cops on night patrol shot dead in Sonipat

In a shocking incident, two personnel of the Haryana Police were found shot dead in the wee hours of Tuesday in Gohana in Sonipat district. The duo was on night curfew patrol and their dead bodies were discovered lying in a pool of blood a stone’s throw from the local police post. ADGP-Rohtak Range Sandeep Khirwar and SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa reached the spot along with a police team and investigations have started.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as special police officer (SPO) Kaptan Singh and constable Ravinder, both hailing from Jind district. They had reportedly left on their official bike for patrolling around midnight and were found dead around 5.30am. A senior investigator revealed that the local residents heard around 15 shots being fired and the duo seemed to have been shot four to five times. Both bodies have been sent for postmortem and CCTV footage around the area is being examined.

“We are investigating the double murder. It's a sensitive issue and we cannot divulge much detail at this point. We will nab the accused soon,” said Jashandeep Singh.
