The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed three chargesheets before a local court in connection with the violence in the national capital in February over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Crime Branch filed the chargesheets before Metropolitan Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Rampuri who has put up the matter for further hearing on June 23.

The investigation agency has filed 20 charge sheets till now in cases related to the riots. It was investigating 59 cases related to it.

The three cases in which chargesheets were filed on Tuesday are: Maujpur Chowk riot case, Kardampuri Pulia riot case and the Kardampuri government dispensary riot case.

At Maujpur Chowk, one person—Vinod Singh--was killed and several others, including policemen, were injured as two groups—those opposing the CAA and those favouring it—clashed on February 24. Incidents of stone pelting, brick-batting, arson, firing and sabotage were reported from both sides.

Shahrukh Pathan, who was seen aiming a gun at a policeman during the riots, along with four others has been arrested in connection with this case. Police said Pathan was also found to be the main accused in another case in which he had brandished his gun and shot at Head Constable Deepak Dahiya in full public view.

At Kardampuri Pulia, one person was killed and several others were injured as the groups engaged in stone-pelting. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Furkan. Based on the video footage, four persons were arrested.

On February 25, the rioters set fire to two parking lots behind the Ambedkar College and stabbed Deepak, an e-rickshaw driver, to death. In this case too, four persons have been arrested.

According to all the three charge sheets, there was a deep-rooted conspiracy which triggered the communal riot.

A web of conspirators, instigators and rioters has been identified and several have been arrested, police said.

It has been established during investigation that the riots were not impromptu but were conspired with intent to create communal strife, to malign the image of the country under the garb of democratically opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, the charge sheets said.
