Social media remained agog with rumours on changes in the Twitter bio by former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, apparently removing the reference of the BJP, which he joined in March this year. Twitter users have linked it to his alleged rift with his new party.

However, his supporters have trashed the rumours to say that there has been no change in the bio of Scindia and have called the rumour mongering a ‘Congress conspiracy’.

"There has been no change in the Twitter bio. Such rumours are merely a political conspiracy by the Congress to divert attention. Is there any proof available to show that the bio was different earlier?” supporter Pankaj Chaturvedi said speaking to THE WEEK.

Also, Scindia retweeted another supporter Krishna Rathore’s tweet that mentioned that Scindia’s Twitter bio remained unchanged and that rumours surrounding it were baseless.

There had been a big controversy in November 2019 when it was noticed that Scindia had changed his Twitter bio to ‘public servant, cricket enthusiast’. There were rumours even then that he had dropped the reference of the Congress from the details.

However, even earlier, his Twitter bio had just mentioned that he was a former Member of Parliament from Guna and his former union ministry portfolios. Scindia had reacted angrily on Twitter on this matter and had made it clear that the change had been made a month prior to the controversy because he was advised that the Twitter bio should be short.

But rumour mills started working again late on Friday night that Scindia had dropped reference to the BJP from his bio because he was unhappy in his new party. Delay in the expansion of Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet in Madhya Pradesh to accommodate his supporters and speculations that all his supporter ex-MLAs who left the grand old party to engineer the collapse of the Congress government might not be given tickets during the impending by-polls have kept politics on the simmer in the state.

There have been rumours that it is because of internal issues related to accommodation of Scindia supporters that the cabinet expansion is stalled. Congress leaders have also been pointing out that Scindia is not receiving as much respect or attention in the BJP as he used to get in Congress and was feeling stifled in the saffron party.

Reacting to conspiracy allegations, Congress spokesman K.K. Mishra, while speaking to THE WEEK, said that after jumping ship to the BJP, Scindia’s relevance was over in the Congress as the party did not have any time to put its mind to issues related to Scindia. “But I will ask, was including ‘mai bhi Chowkidar’ in the Twitter profile (of Scindia when he was in the Congress) also a Congress conspiracy?” Mishra asked.
