Close on the heels of the death of a pregnant wild elephant in Kerala, after it, allegedly, ate a firecracker-filled coconut, another similar incident has come to light in Himachal Pradesh.

A pregnant cow's jaw was blown off after miscreants, allegedly, fed a wheat ball stuffed with firecracker. The cow’s owner uploaded a video of the bleeding cow, which soon went viral, shocking the whole nation.

The cow’s owner said that the incident happened 10 days ago, when the cow was grazing in a field in the Jhanduta area of Bilaspur district.

In the video, the cow's owner blamed his neighbor Nandlal for the cruel act. He said that Nandlal is missing and has sought help of the authorities to book him.

Times of India reported that Bilaspur superintendent of police, Diwakar Sharma, confirmed the incident stating that a case in this regard was registered on May 26. "An FIR has been registered in this case under Section 286 of IPC, Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals Act,” TOI quoted Sharma as saying. No arrests have been made so far.

On May 27, in Kerala, the 15-year-old pregnant elephant died in the Velliyar river. Her jaw was broken and she was unable to eat. The incident had triggered a nationwide outrage. The matter took a controversial turn when BJP MP Maneka Gandhi blamed the people of the neighbouring Muslim-majority Malappuram district for it, though the incident happened in Palakkad district. Her comments did not go down well in the state, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala taking strong objection to her statement.
