In a shocking incident, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and TikTok fame Sonali Phogat was caught on camera thrashing a government official with her slipper in Haryana’s Hisar district where she was visiting a farmers’ market. The video of the incident, which took place on Friday, has since then gone viral on social platforms, prompting opposition Congress to demand strict action against her.
According to reports, Sultan Singh, secretary of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, allegedly made an objectionable comment when Phogat met him with a list of complaints submitted by farmers. An irate Phogat thrashed the officer repeatedly using her slipper in the presence of policemen.
“How dare you abuse me?,” Phogat can be heard shouting in the video. The officer can be heard pleading to her, saying he would look into the farmers’ problems and resolve them.
Phogat later told police that Singh used derogatory language against her, but she didn’t press the charges after the officer apologised.
“Hisar’s BJP leader is beating the secretary of market committee like an animal. Is it a crime to be a government employee? Will Khattar Sahab (Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar) take action?,” asked Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.
