Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath has asked the Madhya Pradesh government to take a decision to open religious places in the state from June 1.

In what could be seen as a barb on the state government, the ex-CM asked through a tweet as to why religious places, which are centres of faith of masses, are closed, when decision has been taken to open liquor shops despite opposition from the common people.

Liquor shops open for 12 hours

Kamal Nath’s demand comes after the recent decision of the state government to open liquor shops across state, except the containment zones, from 7am to 7pm every day.

Earlier, liquor shops were not allowed in red zone districts and in green zone districts, the timings were curtailed. Interestingly in many places, the timings of opening other shops including the grocery shops are curtailed. Congress has been pointing out this discrepancy.

MP Congress committee chief Kamal Nath has been personally attacking the state government and Shivraj Singh Chouhan about leniency on liquor shops and the rise in heinous crimes like murders and gang rapes over past few days. Now, Nath has raised the demand of opening of religious places, bringing in liquor shops issue again. The states of Karnataka and West Bengal have decided to open religious places from June 1, after lockdown 4.0 ends.

Life will be normal soon: Shivraj

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted that India was slowly getting healthy. The CM said in his tweet that ‘yesterday 11386 persons returned home happily after getting cured of COVID-19'. “People are getting back to work. Soon life will be normal. Positive thoughts and taking care of oneself and loved ones is the need of the hour,” Chouhan tweeted.

Chouhan’s tweet comes at a time when the country showed a single day record spike of 7,964 cases and 265 deaths within 24 hours, according to the ministry of health and family welfare data. The total cases in country now stand at 1,73,763 with 4,971 deaths and 82,369 recoveries.

In Madhya Pradesh, the positive case tally stands at 7,645 with 4,269 recoveries and 334 deaths as on May 29.
