COVID-19: Kerala reports highest number of cases today

Kerala records yet another challenging day on the COVID-19 front as 84 cases were reported on Thursday. This is the highest-ever number of cases reported in a day in the state. The total tally of COVID-19 cases in Kerala since February stands at 1,088.  

One death was also reported in the state. The deceased is a Telangana native who had reached the Kerala by mistake on a train from Rajasthan. This takes the death toll in the state to seven.

“We are facing a grim situation with cases shooting up drastically. Every one needs to be extra cautious,” said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Out of the 84 cases, all, except five, are NRKs—31 from abroad and 48 from other states. Majority of the positive cases—31—has been reported among those who have come from Maharashtra. Highest number of cases have been reported in Kasaragod (18) followed by Palakkad (16) and Kannur (10).

However, the only relief is that the tests of three positive cases who were undergoing treatment have returned negative.

There are a of 526 active COVID-19 cases in Kerala, including the 84 reported on Thursday. The number of patients who have recovered stands at 555.

As on Thursday, a total of 82 hot spots have been identified in Kerala. Asking everyone to maintain social distancing seriously, the chief minister said that violation of quarantine rules will be dealt with strictly.
