In a bid to corner the Narendra Modi government over the socio-economic impact of the fight against COVID-19 and the hardship faced by various sections of the society, the Congress, on Thursday, will carry out an online campaign titled ‘Speak Up India’. It is aimed at taking up the issues of the poor, migrants, small businesses and the middle class people.

The online campaign will be on from 11 am to 2 pm on Thursday, and will involve all Congress leaders and workers taking to various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to raise the grievances of different sections of the society that have been hit hard by the restrictions imposed to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“We demand that transport be made available to all migrants to ensure that they reach home safely, increase their employment days to 200 under MGNREGA and provide Rs 10,000 as immediate financial help to the poor besides a financial package for small industries,” said Congress leader Ajay Maken.

The Congress has been making an effort to focus on the humanitarian costs of the pandemic and the alleged insensitivity of the Modi regime to the suffering of the migrants, the poor and the other sections of the society who have been impacted the most by the lockdown. The party has been stressing on an immediate cash transfer of Rs 7,500 to the accounts of the bottom half of the country’s population, which is 13 crore people. It has also demanded free food grains for the poor and financial assistance for small and medium industries.
