Yet another accident has killed and injured migrants--this time those returning from Gujarat in Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, around 10.30am on the Shikarpur-Ahmedpur Road in Bulandshahr, a pickup truck coming from Surat, rammed into an electric pole and overturned. Two of the occupants of the vehicles were killed on the spot while 21 were injured.

The injured have been admitted to the district hospital. The workers were reportedly returning to their village in Bijnor district from Surat in Gujarat. “The driver told us that he lost balance when a bike came in front of the vehicle. He lost control and the vehicle hit an electricity pole before turning turtle," The Hindu quoted Harendra Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Bulandshahr, as saying.

This follows a slew of accidents that have been fatal for migrant workers trying to get back to their hometowns in India. Last week, a total of 24 migrant workers had died and 36 injured were when a trailer truck carrying sacks of lime and 43 people rammed into the back of a stationary truck with many other migrant workers sitting in it near a roadside eatery on National Highway in Auraiya.

Earlier in the month, 16 migrant workers were crushed to death by a goods train when they were attempting to make their way to Aurangabad railway station with the hope of catching a train to their homes in Madhya Pradesh.
