Gurugram Police, on Thursday, booked a doctor for allegedly preparing fake medical records and smuggling out migrants to Bihar.

The police nabbed 16 people, including 11 migrants who were huddled in two ambulances posing as patients and their families, for trying to cross Haryana border and reach Bihar. The accused doctor is on the run.

According to the cops, a team from Badshahpur police station was at a lockdown checkpoint when two ambulances arrived there. Upon noticing an unusual number of people in the ambulances, they stopped both the vehicles and questioned the drivers. They revealed that they were from Vadik Hospital, being run by the key accused, Dr. Suresh.

When the cops demanded relevant papers, they were given documents printed on a fake letter head of a non-existent hospital. The police grew suspicious and checked the patients and found that they had fake bandages. When questioned, they revealed that they were headed to their native villages in Bihar and had paid Rs 7,000 each for safe transportation there.

“This is a major racket. These people work in a local industry and were out of work since last month. They were contacted by this doctor who offered to send them back home with medical documentation and ambulances. Preliminary investigation revealed that he targeted the group from a distress post on social media. We suspect that he may have duped many others”, ACP, crime, Preetpal Singh told THE WEEK.

All 16, including the drivers and owner of the ambulances, have been arrested and the vehicles have been impounded. Search is on for the doctor.
