Sugandha, a staff nurse working in the COVID-19 ward at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences had an unusual caller on Wednesday.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who had watched the staff nurse and her three-year-old daughter break down on seeing each other after a week, on television, had called the healthcare worker to express his gratitude.

On Tuesday, the child was brought near the hospital by her father to meet her mother. But the mother waved at the child from a distance and spoke to her on the mobile as a precaution. The two turned emotional as the mother has not been home in the last seven days.
The chief minister thanked the nurse for her efforts and support in fighting the deadly virus. "I am grateful to you for putting in so much effort in our fight against COVID-19. I saw how you have been continuously working, without attending to your own child at home. I seek your continued support. We will take care of you. God bless you," said Yediyurappa.
While, Sugandha is elated, the family will perhaps need to wait for another fortnight to be reunited as the mother will be quarantined for the next 14 days, which is mandatory for all the healthcare workers attending to COVID-19 cases.
