Three more succumb to COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh, toll rises to 11

Two deaths reported from hotspot Indore, another youth who died worked in the city

Saturday brought more bad news on the COVID-19 front in Madhya Pradesh with three more patients succumbing to the dreaded coronavirus infection in the state.

Two of the deaths were reported from hotspot Indore and another from Chhindwara. The deceased from Chhindwara had worked as a computer operator in Indore. He had recently returned to his hometown, fell sick and died while undergoing treatment at isolation ward of Chhindwara district hospital

With this, the total deaths in the state has now reached double digit figures of 11. Of these seven deaths are in Indore, two in Ujjain and one each in Khargone and Chhindwara.

Indore chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Pravin Jadia told THE WEEK that among the dead in Indore are a 42-year-old man who succumbed while undergoing treatment at MY Hospital Indore.

Another casualty is an 80-year-old woman who died on Thursday. However, the death was confirmed as a COVID-19 fatality only by late night on Friday after her report came back positive. The CMHO said the woman had left after giving her sample on March 30, despite being advised to be admitted in the hospital. Her family members and contacts have been quarantined, Dr Jadia said.

160 positive cases; Indore tally climbs to 115

With three more patients found positive in Indore on Saturday morning, the tally in the district has gone up to 115, CMHO Dr Jadia told THE WEEK. The total in the state now stands at 160.

Meanwhile, two more positive cases have been reported from Khargone, taking the tally to three, while another positive was reported from Chhindwara (father of the deceased youth).

Bhopal has nine positive cases including that of the IAS officer. Morena has 12 positive cases, Jabalpur 8, Ujjain 7 and Gwalior and Shivpuri have two positive cases each.
