A man, who had recently returned from Dubai, and 11 members of his family have tested positive for the coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh. This comes days after the man, identified as Suresh, organised a feast for 1,500 people in his hometown of Morena in Madhya Pradesh to honour his late mother.

The man had been tested in Dubai before his arrival in India but had no symptoms. His wife, however, was said to be ill before he came to Morena. Suresh started showing symptoms of COVID-19 on March 25, but visited the hospital after four days.

The feast took place on March 20. Out of 23 of his close relatives who were tested for the coronavirus, 11 tested positive. All 12 of them, including Suresh and his wife, have been put under quarantine. According to authorities, the others relatives, who tested negative, have been put under isolation for 14 days in their homes at various parts of Morena district.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh has gone up to 154.

As of Saturday morning, 2,902 people have contracted the coronavirus in India so far, with 68 deaths.

The incident is believed to be the second case of a large crowd coming into risk of contracting the coronavirus after an Islamic sect, Tablighi Jamaat, organised a gathering at Nizamuddin in Delhi in early March. Over 950 coronavirus cases have been traced so far, post the event that saw more than 3,000 participants.
