Upset over the increased fights during the lockdown period, a Gurugram resident murdered his wife and committed suicide on Friday.

The man locked his daughter in a room before killing himself. The girl alerted the police about the incident.

Pramod (31), who used to work as a labourer in an industrial area, was unemployed ever since the 21-day lockdown began. According to his daughter, Pramod and his wife Sarita were frustrated over being confined together in house and were constantly quarreling.

"They could not bear being with each other and were frustrated to be together 24 hours. They were having regular quarrels since last ten days and had even started hitting each other. Today, they had been fighting since morning. In the evening, my mother said something and my father rushed to kitchen in rage. He repeatedly hit her and she died. He then dragged me to the room and locked me there. He took a bedsheet from the room which scared me and I called police," the daughter told the police. The police found Pramod hanging in the bathroom.

"Both bodies are kept in the mortuary and the postmortem will be conducted soon,” Sanjay Kumar, SHO of Gurugram sector 10 police station, said.
