Karnataka has recorded 124 cases of novel coronavirus. The state stands in the ninth position in the country in number of coronavirus cases. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the states that have effectively implemented the lockdown, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said on Thursday. Yediyurappa made the comments after attending the second videoconference of chief ministers convened by Modi to review the coronavirus situation.

Pointing to the urgent measures, Modi urged the states to ensure that the lockdown is not violated at any cost and to take strict action against those violating it.

"The PM called for speedy identification of COVID cases and isolation of confirmed and suspected cases as it is crucial to minimise the damage. Our future decision would depend on how all the states comply with the lockdown. A taskforce will be set up after April 14," said Yediyurappa, adding that Modi had reminded the states to take good care of migrant workers.

Stating that the Centre had asked the states to set up dedicated coronavirus hospitals and also given the nod to rope in and train AYUSH practitioners to overcome shortage of doctors, Yediyurappa said that the states have been directed to ensure that the supply of essential commodities are not affected.

While agriculture activities have been exempted from the lockdown, the Centre has cautioned the farmers to take adequate precautions to avoid the coronavirus infection.
