Four more persons in Srinagar have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the number of confirmed cases to 18 in Jammu and Kashmir.

“4 more positive cases in Kashmir; all from Srinagar district – 2 have travel history abroad; the other 2 have travel history outside J&K as part of religious congregation,” tweeted government spokesman Rohit Kansal.

Two of the four infected persons were reportedly on the same flight as the woman from Khanyar who first tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir. She had arrived in Srinagar on March 16.

The other two have a travel history and are members of Tablighi Jamat. It is believed they contracted the virus outside Kashmir and were in touch with the Hyderpora man.

The news of four new COVID-19 positive cases has come a day after three persons including two siblings, one aged seven years and the other seven months, tested positive for COVID-19.

The two minors are related to the Natipora man in Srinagar who tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from overseas.

The siblings are admitted in the COVID-19 designated hospital JLNM in Srinagar. They are reportedly asymptomatic and have been isolated for observation.

According to the J&K government media bulletin, 5,763 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance. The bulletin also said that 3,136 persons have been kept under home quarantine (including in facilities managed by the government) while 169 are in hospital quarantine.

There are 1,877 persons under home surveillance while 581 persons completed their 28-day surveillance period.

Till March 27, 400 of the 423 samples that were sent for testing have returned negative. Reports on five samples are awaited.
