Strongly rebutting the opposition allegation that the government had failed to control the recent riots in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said there was no incidence of violence in the national capital after February 25.

Replying to a debate in Lok Sabha on the riots, Shah alleged that there have been attempts to politicise the issue.

“I would like to place it on record that after 25th February no incident of rioting took place. There have been attempts to politicise these riots,” he said.

He said the Delhi Police had controlled the violence within 36 hours.

While expressing grief over the death of people in the riots, Shah said prima facie the violence appears to be a pre-planned conspiracy. He added that a total of 2,647 people have been detained or arrested.

No one involved in the Delhi riots would be spared irrespective of their religion, caste or party affiliation, he said and stressed that it is also being ensured that "no innocent is harassed".

The home minister said that the government wanted the discussion on Delhi violence after Holi to avoid communal flare up during festival time.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited riot- affected areas on my request to raise morale of the Delhi police, Shah said.

Earlier, the opposition had demanded the resignation of Shah for failing to contain the violence in Delhi for nearly three days.

The BJP members, however, alleged that the violence was a pre-planned conspiracy and the home minister and authorities took pro- active steps to control the situation.

The ruling party said evidence show that stones and petrol bombs were stored in huge quantity to fuel the violence.

Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi after violence between anti-and-pro-Citizenship (Amendment) Act groups spiralled out of control. Frenzied mobs torched houses, shops, vehicles, a petrol pump and pelted stones at local residents and police personnel, leaving  at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.
