Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday tweeted that the situation in Delhi after two days of violence over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was "alarming" and sought the deployment of the Army.

Kejriwal said he was writing to Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue.

Kejriwal tweeted, "I have been in touch wid large no of people whole nite. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence Army shud be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately. Am writing to Hon’ble HM to this effect."

Kejriwal had met Shah on Tuesday to demand measures to contain the violence. Kejriwal had requested an increase in deployment of police personnel to the violence-hit areas of northeast Delhi.

Kejriwal had been criticised on social media for not taking a firm stance over the violence. Kejriwal had called on Delhi residents to remain calm, noting "violence can solve nothing". On Tuesday night, police used water cannons to remove protesters from near Kejriwal's residence. The protesters, who were mainly students of JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia, were demanding action from Kejriwal over the violence in Delhi.
